Thought for the Week—It’s Avalanche season in Colorado, but not the kind you may be thinking of!

Avalanches in Colorado are a real concern and a threat that must be taken seriously each year. But I’m referring to the professional hockey team in Denver who are one win away from going to the Stanley Cup final series. This doesn’t happen every year and it has energized Coloradans more than a powder day at Breckenridge.

Avalanche hockey jerseys have become optional work attire, sports bars are so busy they’re rationing chicken wings, and the folks waiting in the check-out line at my local Lowe’s this past weekend broke in to a “let’s go Avs” chant. This is not typical behavior for the fairly chill Rocky Mountain culture. Even I have gotten caught-up in the excitement and I’ve never been much of a hockey fan.

Why is this happening? Well, it’s naturally easy to be influenced by others who are excited and optimistic about a winning outcome, and the Avalanche have a real opportunity to be keepers of the Stanley Cup for a year.

B2B marketing content and messaging tends to use a rational approach to influencing buyers. We like to use problems in our headers as attention-getters and present logical solutions to inspire. We use data, statistics, and reasoning to influence buying teams.

But don’t forget about the influencing power of emotion, hope, excitement, and how it feels to achieve something big. We should include all these things in our content as well.

I hope you have a great week, let’s go Avs!
