Did you know that NASA still has an automobile-sized rover exploring Mars? It was launched in 2011 and has been exploring the red planet for nearly 10 years. Its name is Curiosity, it has its own website, and it even sends selfies back to Earth. It’s purpose is to determine if Mars ever had the right environmental conditions to support small life forms called microbes.

Curiosity is a valuable trait, but without direction it is not good. We know what happened to the cat! When it is combined with purpose, the results can be amazing. Albert Einstein always dismissed any notion that he was gifted and instead, said he was “only very, very curious.”

When B2B marketers and sales teams approach understanding their buyers with sincere curiosity, they too can experience great results. Last week I had a great conversation with Erin Moore from Trew Marketing. To say that Erin and the rest of her team is curious about buyers and the journey they take to make purchasing decisions is an understatement. They conduct research annually and produce an insightful report, the latest is the 2022 State of Marketing to Engineers.

Later this week we’ll publish an article based on my conversation with Erin. In it she explains how she applies curiosity to customer persona development to improve the results you can get from inbound marketing.

In the meantime, I encourage you to practice curiosity!
