Chillin' With Giants!
By Perry Rearick, Chief Editor, Follow Your Buyer
Occasionally I stray a bit away from B2B marketing and sales in my thought-for-the-week, this is one of those times, sort of.
Spending time in the Colorado mountains is one of my favorite ways to recharge. A few days among the geological giants is rejuvenating and exhausting, humbling and uplifting, grounding and elevating all at the same time.
When I return to work, I am more enthusiastic, productive, and confident.
But we don’t have to travel into the Rocky Mountains for recharging. We all have giants in our lives, and we should intentionally spend time with them.
Think about the people in your life who you consider to be giants: old friends, co-workers, supervisors, and direct reports. These are the folks who know you well, challenge you, support your ideas, but not before asking difficult questions, and they remind you of your value. They listen, offer comment when appropriate, help shape your goals, and convince you they are achievable.
This is not a venting session with a group of co-workers over lunch. While that can be valuable if it helps us avoid an explosion, it does not enrich us.
You’re probably already thinking about the people you know who enrich your life and you theirs. And it’s probably been too long since you last spent time with them.
OK, here’s the point when I mention B2B marketing and sales, I can’t help it.
That press release you must write can wait an hour or two and it will be so much better after a recharge. That nurturing email you plan to send to a prospect will contain more value and be much more persuasive after chillin’ a bit with one of the giants you know.
I hope you have a great week!
